What to look for in snowboarding goggles

Have you ever tried snowboarding without goggles? If you have, you will agree it is no fun at all unless you happened to be blessed with a beautiful day on the mountain.  When looking for snowboard goggles a few key thoughts need to be kept in mind.  Essential factors in this search are proper fit, versatility, price and particular product features that the different companies and styles offer.  For the best advice first though, always watch out for spring sales on goggles.  You might not find the newest, hottest and latest styles but you definitely will save yourself a couple bucks.

Proper fit and comfort

Like the fit of most anything, not too small and not too big is just perfect.  With goggles set firmly on the ridge of your nose, an excess of pressure should not be felt where the elastic wraps around your skull yet the goggles should not be loose as that they might fall off.  Rubber padding that can be found in most brands of goggles now days will help to give a sealed, proper fit to almost any shape of face.   While considering fit, it is also necessary to make sure the goggles will also fit properly to your helmet.   At the same time the goggle should not impair any area of your vision seeing as the main purpose of the goggle is to see clearly.

Versatility

With 2010 almost upon us, technology and snowboarding have almost become synonymous and equipment in nothing like it was twenty years ago.  For the goggle, one of the major advancements in technology is switchable lenses which have eliminated the need for several sets of goggles for riding at different times of the day.   For the fashion friendly snowboarder, almost any design imaginable can be found on rims of a snowboard goggle these days.  Before purchasing a set make sure you are picking the color and design that matches your snow gear.

Required Features

So many features come on snowboard equipment these days, for the buyer purchasing of equipment can be rather overwhelming.  One feature that should not be overlooked is ventilation holes that are usually found around the edges of the frame.  These holes, usually protected by a screen or sponge like material help air to transfer between the inner and outer environment of the goggle and help to stop fogging of the lenses that goggles used to be so popular for.  As long as you do not take your goggles off while you are riding you will be guaranteed a fog free day of riding.  Another important feature to always check for is that the lenses of the goggles are made of shatterproof glass.  Most any goggles made today are made with shatterproof glass but it still never hurts to ask.

Once the proper set of goggles is found, a day of snowboarding will be much more enjoyable when the winds begin to howl and the snow starts to blow.  All in all, hunting down the perfect fit and pair of goggles will ultimately be well worth your time.

Why not try the popular winter sport of snowboarding?

When it comes to the winter sport of snowboarding the cost of it can be very high indeed.  But if you take your time and do your research beforehand then you could end up saving quite a tidy sum on the equipment.  Of all the equipment that you need to purchase to enjoy this sport are the snowboards.

But there are ways that you can save money on your purchase.  You could wait until the end of the snowboarding season to get yours.  This is because a great many rental and sales shops will want to bring in the latest items for the following year.  So in order to limit their expenditure they like to sell off the boards that have been in their stores for this year.

The other place to look for snowboards is in classified ads in newspapers and specialist magazines, plus don’t forget to look online especially at auction sites such as eBay.

When it comes to snowboarding there are three different styles of this sport that one can get involved in.  You can either doing free styling, free riding or free carve racing.  Most of the boards that are available are the type used for the first two types of snowboarding sports and getting a good quality racing board proves a lot harder.

It is a good idea if you are unsure what sort of snowboarding interests you to rent various boards for a day and try them out.  This is a great way of being able to see if you like the sport and then spend money on getting your own equipment.

To further help you with deciding which of the snowboards is going to be right for you we take a brief look at each design below.

Freestyle Snowboard - This has a soft boot and is quite a bit shorter than the other boards we discuss in this article.  The main reason for this is it allows you more manoeuvrability on the board so you can do tricks and jumps allowing you to become airborne.  These boards are best used in parks that have been set up for this kind of sport.

Freeride Style Snowboard – Just as with the above it comes with a soft boot but is much longer than the freestyle version.  This allows you the ability to control the direction in which the snowboard is going to be heading and is best for using in open country and where a new layer of fresh snow (powder) has formed.  Because of the ability to control its direction you will find manoeuvring around obstacles such as trees won’t prove a problem.

Freecarve Race Snowboard – Unlike the other two snowboards we mention in this article this one has a very hard boot and is designed for using on hard packed or groomed runs.  The aim of riding one of this is to try and hit the ultimate carving turn and this is achieved as it is very long, narrow and stiff.
